CONCEPTS IN TIME BASED MEDIA
Intermediate level study of design fundamentals in time-based applications, with emphasis on video, sound and performance. This course explores the use of time as a medium to shape viewer/participants aesthetic experiences in time.
MAKING A CASE FOR A COURSE
For this project, students were challenged to make short videos to MAKE A CASE FOR A COURSE that UNCG should offer. The videos were created for the UNCG School of Art Instagram.
Some considerations that were discussed with students:
- Who are you?
- What is the course?
- What are your background and life experiences that relate to your interest in this course?
- What is the historical and current context of your subject? (ex. if you want to offer a course on rollerblading, give the viewer some ideas of rollerblading happening in our world.. assume you need to educate the view in a concise and brief way)
- Why is this course relevant and useful to students?
- Why does this course help shape a better citizen and member of society?
- Where and how does this course happen (particularly if an unusual or unique place or method)
- Who might teach this course or be visiting guests to the course?
- What are the next steps for the viewer? how can they contact you or show their interest / support?
- Thank the viewers?
Consideration for production:
- fundamental principles - composition, framing shots, smooth dolly shots, overhead views, parallel and vertical lines, sound quality and editing.
