This video was created for an exhibition at Island6 in Shanghai, China. Unable to make the journey myself, I created a set of video performance instructions for the curator. Western shift consists of moving objects a few inches or feet towards the West. This video inspired an entire series of remotely instructed videos around the world, sponsored by Rhizome at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY.
Over the course of one year, I collaborated with over 20 different people in multiple countries. The performances took place in cities, neighborhoods, villages and towns around the world.
This project explored the effects (and power) of media in relationship to communication, geography and social collaboration.
