We just couldn’t get enough of Small Plots, and welcome back the all-stars of that series in a culminating project at the Wake Forest Baseball Park. Life/Theater: The Dash is an interactive performance event celebrating the colorful characters that make baseball a uniquely fascinating spectator sport. During this Saturday night’s Winston-Salem Dash baseball game, Inside Out artist Lee Walton will draw inspiration from the classic American baseball game to direct a cast of actors to play humorous characters that weave themselves into the “real” crowd. These actors will be subtle (and not-so-subtle) caricatures of fans who regularly add color and humor to the baseball game experience.

A lineup card/program will be handed out to all ticketholders at the gate, which describes these characters and the actions they will be performing throughout the game. This will be a guide to spotting the performers amidst the crowd, from the man who’s bought too much popcorn to the fans who always seem to cheer at the wrong time. As you begin to look more attentively at one another (and all that surrounds the game on the field), this project becomes a “game within the game,” akin to a visual scavenger hunt. Make sure to note where and when you see the actors on the scorecard printed inside the program!
