In 2017, Action Greensboro, a public arts program, reached out to my class for help in the development of a public sculpture. This sculpture was to be located in the Ole Asheboro neighborhood of Greensboro, NC.
In response, my class attended local community meetings to listen and better understand the desires of the community. We then brought community members together to learn more about the history of the neighborhood. We did this through the creation of a RECIPE BOOK and potluck event.
From conversations we realized that Vandorn Hinnant, an artist and sculptor, grew up in Ole Asheboro. We connected Vandorn with Action Greensboro, who was then commissioned to create the public sculpture.
